Basketball Night

Basketball Night became one of the most popular activities for Shoreline teenagers last year. Each Basketball Night, we provide a safe and fun place for youth to get some free pizza and get connected to new friends.

  • All teenagers welcome
  • Free pizza
  • Led by the SSF Leadership team as a strategic opportunity to give teenagers a fun and healthy place to be on Saturday nights
  • Bring a friend and a ball - or just come to hang out with our leaders
  • Location: Shorecrest HS
  • This is a free program, sponsored by The SSF Support Team

"Why Basketball Night?" ...A note from our Director.

After a decade of asking local teenagers the question, "what do you need most?" the most common answers have been, "Something fun to do" and "Someone I can really talk to." Basketball Night has a special culture that hits on both of these needs.

Over the past 4 years of it's operation, Basketball Night has become a special place to me. The 20+ leaders that run the night, throw the doors wide-open to everyone who wants to come in, greeting every individual by name and setting the tone for an environment that allows kids to connect, who otherwise would likely never speak to each other.

On a weekend in Shoreline, it is very common for students from local schools to feel isolated, bored, or wreckless. Shorecrest's "Healthy Youth Survey" reports that roughly 1 in 5 Shorecrest students acknowledge they have ridden with a driver who had been drinking in the past month. That's more than 200 kids from just one of our local High Schools per month. Saturday night is a key time of the week when many local students are the most likely to become a part of these statistics.

The Foundation is devoted to empowering youth and building a diverse community. We would like to sincerely thank the more than 50 volunteers who have helped put on Basketball Night, the parents who have encouraged their kids to join this event and the donors who have made this night possible. Please join us at either Shorecrest or Shorewood High School on Saturday Nights to help our community be a fun and healthy place to live.
